General Overview
As a key resource for the Archdiocese of Toronto, the Office of Marriage Preparation and Family Life co-ordinates and facilitates Archdiocesan Marriage Preparation programs for our parishes and offers family life education programs for the parishes upon request.
The Marriage Preparation and Family Life Office works collaboratively with the Chancery Office and the Marriage Tribunal Office of the Archdiocese of Toronto. The marriage preparation courses, as described below, are offered at various parishes and other locations throughout the Archdiocese. All the courses are guided by professionally trained and skilled counselors.
Services
TRAINING — Volunteer Marriage Preparation Leaders for parish-based Marriage Courses
SPECIAL SERVICES — Provides specialized marriage preparation such as Re-Marriage Preparation courses and Co-Habiting and Civilly Married Couple Marriage Preparation courses
INFORMATION SERVICES — Develops and distributes materials for the Marriage Preparation curriculum and offers a telephone information and referral service to parishes and couples on Archdiocesan Marriage Preparation Programs.
CONSULTATION — to clergy regarding individual and couple readiness for marriage
SPECIALIZED TRAINING & EVALUATION — Trains clergy to use the FOCCUS (Facilitating Open Couple Communication, Understanding & Study) Couple Inventory and scores the results
VOLUNTEER SUPPORT — Plans and facilitates the annual Volunteer Marriage Preparation Leaders Workshops
EDUCATION — Provides workshops in parishes such as ‘Parenting as a Catholic’ and ‘Healthy Couple Checkups’
ADVISORY ASSISTANCE — Upon request, provides to the Chancellor of the Archdiocese assessments of individual readiness for marriage when prohibited to marry by the Marriage Tribunal sentence
INSTRUCTIONAL SERVICES — On behalf of the Chancellor, plans and coordinates the annual Parish Secretaries Workshops which facilitates their role in dealing with marriage and its documentation on the parish level. |
