John Boissonneau was born on December 7, 1949 in Toronto, Ontario. He attended separate schools, then Neil McNeil High School, Toronto, graduating in 1967, and entering St. Augustine’s Seminary the same year. As a Deacon, he served the parishes of St. Charles Borromeo and St. Benedict’s, Toronto. He was ordained by Archbishop Philip F. Pocock at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Toronto, his home parish, on December 14, 1974. Father Boissonneau received a B.A. from the University of St. Michael’s College, Toronto in 1970, a S.T.B. from St. Paul’s University, Ottawa in 1973, S.T.L. from the Gregorian University, Rome, in 1982, and Th.D. from the University of St. Michael’s College in 1989. He served as Vice Chancellor and secretary to Archbishop Pocock, Archdiocese of Toronto from 1974 to 1979, becoming Chancellor until 1980. During this time he also served as Defender of the Bond, Toronto Curial Tribunal. In 1982 he became a Tutorial Assistant at St. Augustine’s Seminary and the Toronto School of Theology, becoming Vice-Rector of the Seminary in 1987. He served as Acting President-Rector from 1992-1993, becoming President-Rector at that time. Father Boissonneau also acted as a Sessional Lecturer, Assistant Professor and Associate Professor of Systematic Theology at St. Augustine’s Seminary and the Toronto School of Theology from 1988 to 2001. Father Boissonneau was created a Prelate of Honour with the title of Monsignor in 1996, and became a member of the College of Consultors of the Archdiocese in 1999. On March 23, 2001 Monsignor Boissonneau was named Titular Bishop of Tambee and Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto. He was ordained May 29, 2001 in St. Michael’s Cathedral, Toronto. Bishop Boissonneau has pastoral responsibility for the Western region of the Archdiocese, is the Vicar for Deacons, Christian Education, and Liturgy. He also served as the Chair of the Archdiocese of Toronto Committee for World Youth Day 2002. |
