MEDIA ADVISORY
SIX PRIESTS TO BE ORDAINED FOR THE ARCHDIOCESE OF TORONTO
TORONTO (12 May 2005) - Six men will be ordained to the priesthood for the Archdiocese of Toronto at 10:00 AM on Saturday, May 14, 2005, in St. Michael's Cathedral, 65 Bond St., Toronto. Cardinal Ambrozic will be the main celebrant. Other bishops and priests will also take part in the Solemn Eucharist in the presence of the families and friends of the candidates and with the good wishes of all the Catholics of the Archdiocese. All are welcome to attend.
The candidates are:
Dominic Barber
Sherwin Holandez
Sean Lee Lung
Joseph Nguyen
Hansoo Park
Tomasz Skibinski
Before their ordination, these men undertook a long and complex process of selection, discernment, formation, evaluation and training. Having completed their undergraduate degrees, they completed five years of studies in theology, liturgy and pastoral work in a context of spiritual direction, personal prayer and liturgical participation. Assessment of their abilities and suitability for ministry was done by professors, superiors and other professionals before final acceptance by the Cardinal.
In the course of their studies, they spent a year working in parishes and had other placements where they worked directly with the people of the Archdiocese as part of the pastoral component of their preparation for the ministerial priesthood.
We are grateful that these new priests are giving themselves to the service of God, of the 1.5 million Catholics in this Archdiocese, and of all the children of God.
