Mining the Riches of the Christian Tradition: Mysticism in Everyday Life
Three part Lecture Series
Tuesdays, April 27, May 4, May 11 – 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Charbonnel Lounge, 81 St. Mary Street, Toronto.
Facilitated by Sr. Jeanne Cover, I.B.V.M. Christian mystics, as exemplified in the life and work of Mary Ward, attest to the fact that the gift of union with God can be searched for and found, whoever and whatever we are. Mysticism involves sight, the new vision that comes from recognition of the divine in our midst and expressed in the transforming love of God and neighbour. This three part series will invite participants to become more attentive to their own spiritual journey within the context of the journey and prophetic message of Mary Ward (1585-1645).
April 27 – “Looking Back” – The message in 1609 – a time of challenge and conflict, internal and external, for Christianity.
May 4 – “Living the Experience” – Meeting the Holy through Contemplation in Action, confronting the problem of unbelief by 'holding on to hope with faith'.
May 11 – “Looking Ahead” – The Message Today: May Ward's vision for the future. Who are the mystics of today? What do the writings and practice of the mystics have to say to modern seekers of spiritual meaning?
Cost $20.00/evening, $50.00 for the series. Co-sponsored by Loretto Sisters and St. Mike's Continuing Education. For more information and reservations, please call 416-926-7254 or email continuinged.stmikes@utoronto.ca.
