Bernini sculptures at the AGO this summer
Starting from June 23 to October 7, for the first time ever, all three Canadian-owned, public sculptures by one of the greatest sculptors of the 17th century, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, will be featured at the AGO as one component of the Gallery's summer exhibitions.
Titled Bernini in Focus, one important work featured is the recently donated sculpture, Corpus. Cast in 1650, Corpus is 5 feet, 6 inches in height and is one of Bernini's largest bronze sculptures. Corpus can be traced back to Bernini's own private collection. In addition to Corpus, the AGO will also be exhibiting a marble portrait bust of Pope Gregory XV sculpted in 1621, and a marble bust of Pope Urban XIII owned by The National Gallery of Canada.
After the exhibition, Corpus will become a permanent piece at the AGO and the second Bernini sculpture in the Gallery's collection.

Stories of Human Failure in the Bible
The list of all biblical characters, men and women, in the Bible is very long. People like Abraham, Moses and David are more central figures because of the length of their narratives and because of their importance in the Bible and in the later traditions of three monotheistic religions: Judaism, Christianity and Islam.
They are success stories, people who made it. But besides them are the stories of those who did not make it, stories of human failure. The question is: “WHY?”
Two lectures will be held on Saturday, October 13. Location: TBA.
For further information and to register, please call the Catholic Biblical Association: 416-406-4398 and visit our website: www.cbac.org.
