Physician Assisted Suicide: Medical, Legal, Social, and Theological Aspects

Thursday, May 28, 2009 - 7:00 p.m.
University of St Michael's College, Faculty of Theology, room 101, 95 St Joseph Street, East Door.

Speakers: Moira McQueen, LLB, MDiv, PhD, Executive Director, CCBI and Rory Fisher, MB, FRCP(ED)(C), Professor Emeritus, Department of Medicine, University of Toronto.

All are welcome to attend this free event.

The issue of legalizing Physician-Assisted Suicide (PAS) is expected to be raised again by Bloc Québécois member Francine Lalonde, who has substantial support for introducing a third Bill.

The Catholic Church is clear on its stance of protecting human life from conception until natural death, and recognizes the importance of the human need “to die well”: to have effective pain control and good palliative care, to see meaning in suffering, and to experience compassion and solidarity in our dying, instead of abruptly and prematurely terminating God's gift of life.

Please join us as we discuss the medical, legal, social and theological aspects of PAS. We invite your contributions to the discussion as we try to develop some strategies for making our views more effective for the common good.
