| Taxation Changes Affect Giving
In the May 2006 Federal Budget the capital gains tax that would be payable on the sale(s) of any publicly listed company shares has been eliminated if these shares are donated to a registered charity.
Parishioners may wish to donate such shares to their Parish as part of their offertory giving, capital campaigns, maintenance funds, or to other parish needs, and/or to an Archdiocesan charity such as ShareLife, Shepherds' Trust, St. Augustine's Seminary, etc. and receive an income tax receipt for the full value of the shares at the time of donation.
Parishioners wishing to donate in this manner should advise their Parish and have the Parish contact the Office of Stewardship Development 416-934-3400 ext. 561 who will arrange for the sale of the shares and remit the funds to the Parish and/or Archdiocesan charity accordingly.
Please feel free to place this announcement in your Parish bulletin.
