A Mass to Support Women Experiencing Violence and Abuse

November 3, 2010 - 5:00 p.m.
St. Paul's Basilica, Toronto.

Celebrant : Bishop Vincent Nguyen. Catholic Family Services of Toronto invites everyone to attend the mass to show our support to women victims of domestic violence and abuse. The Mass will also mark the launch of its Women Helping Women program which aims to support women to end violence in their lives and help advance their economic and social conditions. The program will also train volunteers to act as mentors for women experiencing violence.

Discernment Retreat - Ottawa

November 19-21, 2010.

The Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate will host a discernment retreat in Ottawa for young men (18 - 35 years) who might be open to life as a missionary priest or brother. Join with others like yourself who are seeking to know God's will for their lives. The weekend will begin on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and finish on Sunday by noon.

Chant for Parishes

November 5 - 6 2010
St. Joseph Parish, 5440 Durie Road, Streetsville.

Please join us for this workshop led by Fr. Samuel Weber, OSB, Director of the Institute of Sacred Music in the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Missouri. This workshop aims at looking at ways to introduce chant in our Parishes. Fr. Weber has been instrumental in adapting Chant for use in the English Language and has prepared Mass Settings to be used with the New Translation of the Roman Missal. Cost $35.00.

“My Spiritual Journey – from a Boat Refugee to a Catholic Bishop in Canada”

A public address by Bishop Vincent Nguyen, Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto.

Bishop Nguyen was born in Vietnam in 1966.  He left there in 1983, arriving in Canada in 1984.  He obtained his engineering degree but then entered the seminary and was ordained a priest in 1998. After further studies in Rome and several parish assignments, he was ordained as the first Asian-Canadian Catholic bishop in Canada in January 2010.
