MEDIA ADVISORY:

The Journey to Priesthood - 1,760 Gather To Hear Inspiring Stories of Faith
20th Annual Ordinandi Dinner - March 2, 2010

WHAT: 20th Annual Ordinandi Dinner.

WHEN: Tuesday, March 2, 2010 – 7:00 p.m.

WHERE: Pearson Convention Center, 2638 Steeles Ave. East, Brampton.

WHO: Five local Serra Clubs, part of Serra International, an organization promoting vocations to the priesthood and religious life, welcome more than 1,700 guests including His Grace, Thomas Collins, Archbishop of Toronto, along with four other bishops. Attendees include representatives from parishes, schools and Catholic organizations throughout the Archdiocese as well as the Rectors of St. Augustine’s and Redemptoris Mater Seminaries.

On March 2, 2010, more than 1,700 guests will gather at the Pearson Convention Center in Brampton to hear 11 men share personal stories of their journey to the priesthood. The dinner will also honour priests celebrating 50 and 60 years of service to the church. Due to strong demand for tickets, the dinner has moved to a larger facility this year to accommodate the largest attendance ever in the history of the 20 year event.

The dinner is sponsored and organized by five local Serra Clubs that work to promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life. Serra International membership comprises more than 20,000 men and women in 46 countries who belong to over 1,100 Serra Clubs, including 13 in Canada and 8 in Ontario. Serra continues to grow in the province with the most recent chartering of the Serra Club of Markham and Scarborough last December, and a new club currently in formation in Barrie.

Currently there are more than 70 men at various stages of their diocesan priestly formation in the Archdiocese of Toronto. Candidates undergo extensive spiritual formation, theological education and practical field training. On May 15, 2010, five of these men will be ordained to serve as priests for the Archdiocese of Toronto.
