MEDIA RELEASE
ARCHDIOCESE OF TORONTO ANNOUNCES
RECIPIENTS OF PAPAL HONOURS

TORONTO (June 8, 2006) – The Archdiocese of Toronto is pleased to announce the latest recipients of Papal Honours, recognizing the outstanding contributions of Catholics across the Archdiocese. The decorations are conferred by the Holy See at the request of Aloysius Cardinal Ambrozic. The 2006 recipients will be honoured at a ceremony on Tuesday, June 20 at 7:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Cathedral.

Papal Honours will be bestowed upon the following individuals:

The Cross Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice (Cross for the Church and for the Holy Father)

Mrs. Vicki Garnett, for her exceptional execution of her duties as Executive Assistant to His Eminence, Gerald Emmett Cardinal Carter from 1987-1992 and later as Executive Assistant to the President of the University of St. Michael’s College.

As Lady of St. Sylvester

Professor Janine Langan, for her notable labours as adjunct professor at St. Augustine’s Seminary and for her coordination of the Christianity and Culture program at the University of St. Michael’s College.

As Knights of St. Gregory

Dr. Daniel W. Lang, for his commitment of 40 years to the field of higher education.

Professor Wsevolod W. Isajiw, for his significant contribution to Catholic education, especially in connection with proposed changes to the Education Act.

Mr. Brian Rae, for his outstanding choral work as a Choir School teacher for over 40 years.

Mr. Henry Hyde Hodson, for his dedicated service as Director of St. Michael’s Choir School.

As Knights of St. Sylvester

Mr. Augustine Michael Arrigo, for his magnificent leadership and dedication as Lieutenant of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem.

Professor Thomas Langan, for his outstanding service as a Catholic educator and his committed involvement in the Catholic Civil Rights League.We give thanks for the outstanding contributions of all these individuals.
