19th Annual Mass of Memory
Famine Yesterday - Hunger Today

Principal Celebrant and Homilist will be Bishop M. Pearse Lacey, Bishop Emeritus of Toronto.

In memory of all people who have suffered and died from hunger.

There will be a wreath dedication at the Pieta after Mass in memory of Michael Power, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Toronto, and the many victims of the Great Irish Famine of the 1840's, who are buried in the grounds of Saint Paul's Basilica.

Reception after the wreath dedication in the Basilica Hall. Proceeds from this celebration will be directed to the Children's Breakfast Program of St. Paul's Basilica.

25th Annual Rosary Sunday

The day starts with an outdoor Mass celebrated at the Polish Altar by Rev. Alex Kirsten, S.J., Director of the Shrine at 12:00 noon. At 2:00 p.m., there will be a procession of the Blessed Sacrament followed by the Living Rosary, with Archbishop Thomas Collins as Homilist, and finally, Benediction at the Papal Altar.

Full-Time Administrative Assistant - Office of Youth and Vocation Ministry

The Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer is seeking a full-time administrative assistant to assist in the day-to-day operations of the office and websites. Duties include: oversee the maintenance, development and contributions to four websites, develop and circulate communication materials through printed and electronic media, provide administrative support for our Vocation Office, the Canadian Certificate in Youth Ministry Studies Program, and initiatives in Youth and Young Adult Ministry.

The applicant should have completed a Bachelors of Arts (or equivilant), have background and training in website development, and Content Management Systems, and a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Suite. Catholic theological training is valuable, but not essential.

Salary will depend upon experience and qualifications. We offer a collaborative working environment and a solid benefits program.

Workshop on St. Paul

Father Raymond Collins, STD, a renowned New Testament scholar, will be giving a three-evening workshop on St. Paul at St. Gabriel's Passionist Parish. Topics include: 1) St Paul, preacher of the Gospel in a new time, a new culture, and a new way (October 5): 2) Women in Paul's ministry (October 6); and 3) The Cross in Paul (October 7).

Until his retirement in 2006, Father Collins was, for more than three decades, a professor of New Testament, first at the Catholic University of Louvain, Belgium, and then at the Catholic University of America. He is author of numerous books and articles on the New Testament.

The Kick-Off Rally 40 Days for Life

Kick-Off Rally for 40 Days for Life is an international, interdenominational pro-life campaign to end abortion. Guest speaker, Rebecca Kiessling – conceived in rape, will share her story.

40 Days for Life is happening in Toronto. It is part of an inter-denominational, international campaign to end abortion. It has lead to a significant drop in abortion on almost all locations where it has been held. September 23 - November 1, 2009.

There are three key components: 1. Prayer and fasting 2. Peaceful vigil: people stand for life in a 40 day peaceful witness outside of an abortion facility. 3. Community Outreach

The Toronto vigil location are 960 Lawrence Ave. West (Dufferin/Lawrence), 24 hours each day, and 302 Gerrard St. East (beside Aid to Women), from 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

The Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute invites you to discover and examine ethical issues involved in our understanding of life and death from a Roman Catholic perspective. St. Francis of Assisi Parish, Mississauga, is hosting a series of sessions called, For the People in the Pews. This program will be held four consecutive Tuesday evenings from 7:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. in the parish hall. The presenter will be Dr. Moira McQueen, Executive Director of The Canadian Catholic Bioethics Institute.

What is ethics/bioethics and what are the issues?

End of Life Issues: Part One

Statue of the Assumption of Mary Available

The statue stands approx. 5'3" and 19" wide. Her mantle is blue, her dress is off-white and her hair is brown. The cherubs that surround her have the same hair and skin colouring. There is no charge for the statue.

The Teaching of Jesus Christ

St. Thomas Aquinas Parish will be presenting the program “The Teaching of Jesus Christ”. The format of the nine session program will begin by viewing a 1-hour DVD (speaker Rev. John Corapi) followed by a group discussion led by the clergy of St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. This program synthesizes the Catholic Church's official Catechism.

Fall 2009 –Tuesdays, starting September 29, 2009.
Winter 2010 – Tuesdays, starting January 12, 2010.
