Theology of the Body

St Jerome's Church in Brampton is hosting a series of presentations on the Theology of the Body. They will be held on Tuesdays - September 16, 23, 30 and October 14 in the social hall from 7:30 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. Based on John Paul II's life-transforming teachings, these informative sessions will help you better understand your faith and God's plan for your life. Questions to be explored include:

- Is there a real purpose to life?
- What exactly is “Love”?
- What is the purpose of the married and
celibate vocations?
- Is it truly possible to be pure of heart?
- Why were we created male and female?

Theology of the Body for Teens

Starting on Thursday Sept. 25, running from
7:00 -9:00 p.m. for 12 weeks (ending on Dec 11) at Holy Redeemer Parish Hall 796 Eyer Dr., in Pickering, teens are invited to study and reflect on the Theology of the Body for Teens, where they will discover God's wondrous plan for their lives. Cost: $10 which covers the student workbook.

A special Parent Information evening for the upcoming Theology of the Body for Teens will be held on Thursday Sept. 11 at Holy Redeemer Hall 796 Eyer Dr., in Pickering, at 7:30 p.m.

This Sacred reading provides an opportunity to read aloud the Word of God taking time to pause, reflect and pray together. In the coming year, we will encounter Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount, summarizing the foundation of Christian life.

Eighteenth Annual Mass of Memory

Sunday, October 5, 2008 – 3:00 p.m.
St. Paul's Basilica, Toronto.

Famine Yesterday – Hunger Today.

Bishop M. Pearse Lacy, Bishop Emeritus of Toronto will be the Principal Celebrant and Homilist of this Mass in memory of all people who have suffered and died from hunger. Also in memory of Bishop Michael Power, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Toronto and the many victims of the Great Irish Famine of the 1840's, who are buried in the grounds of St. Paul's Basilica.

Wreath dedication ceremony at the Pieta after Mass in front of the Basilica. Reception to follow in the hall. All proceeds from this celebration to assist the Children's Breakfast Program at St. Paul's Basilica.

Candlelight Rosary Procession and High Mass

October 7, 2008

Honouring Our Lady of the Rosary at Holy Cross Church.

7:00 p.m. – Traditional Latin Sung Mass with Gregorian Choir of St. Patrick's Parish, Toronto.

Those who participate may gain the Plenary Indulgence, under the usual conditions of Confession, Holy Communion and Prayers for the Pope's intentions, granted for the 150th Anniversary of the apparitions of the Blessed Virgin Mary to St. Bernadette at Lourdes.

Note to Clergy: Visiting Priests and Deacons participate at Mass in Extraordinary Form by attendance "in choir", i.e. processing and taking their places in the sanctuary, vested in cassock and surplice; a white stole is worn during the Canon, until the reservation of the Blessed Sacrament.

Volunteer Opportunity
Choir Sectional Leaders needed

St. Matthew’s Parish is seeking sectional leaders for their English Choir. Leaders needed for soprano, alto, tenor and bass. Candidates should have previous vocal training, experience in choral music and ability to read music. Sectional leaders should be knowledgeable in tone production, breathing technique, and diction. Duties include supporting and instructing vocal sections in good vocal techniques during rehearsals and mass. Knowledge of Italian and/or Portuguese diction is an asset, but not required.

Our English Choir is made up of a dedicated group of volunteers that share a love of music. They have a passion for learning and seek to grow in their musical ability.

Qualified high school students are also encouraged to apply, as this is a wonderful opportunity to be involved in music ministry and to fulfill the mandatory volunteer hours needed to obtain an OSSD.

“LITTLE FLOWER” Celebrates 75 Years

Saturday, October 4, 2008 - 10:30 a.m.
St. Theresa's Parish, 2559 Kingston Road, Scarborough.

The “Shrine of the Little Flower” is celebrating 75 years serving the south-Scarborough community, honouring their patron, St. Theresa, with a Jubilee year of activities beginning with a Celebration Mass with Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto Richard Grecco.

Special events are planned throughout the year kicking off in October 2008, and culminating in October 2009. Historical displays, a parish Photo Album, monthly visitations by former pastors and seminarians-turned-priests, movie nights, and school activities are among the events planned.

A highlight of the celebrations is the installation of 17 Stained Glass windows throughout the church, sponsored by families in the parish. The windows project began nearly two years ago and will be a permanent commemoration of this Jubilee.

Living Without Fear – A Day of Social Justice

A conference on awareness of abuse against women and an information day for the whole community.
