Mass of Thanksgiving
for Beatified Foundress

Mother Maria Teresa of Saint Joseph, foundress of the Carmelite Sisters of the Divine Heart of Jesus was beatified May 13, 2006.

In honour of her beatification, St. Francis of Assisi parish in Mississauga (2473 Thorn Lodge Drive) and the Carmelite Sisters, D.C.J. will celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving October 15, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. (NOTE CORRECTED TIME)

Born Anna Maria Tauscher in 1855 in Germany, daughter of a Lutheran Superintendent. From a young age, driven by compassion for the poor, she sought to bring the Saviour's love to less fortunate children. Embracing the Catholic faith in 1885, she founded a contemplative/active branch of the Carmelites in 1891.

She established foundations throughout Europe and came to the USA in 1912. Invited by Archbishop Neil McNeil, she came to Toronto in 1913, founding a Home for Girls and doing mission work with the immigrants. In Canada her work continues in Homes for the Aged in Mississauga, St. Catharines and Medicine Hat.

Family Weekend at
St. Augustine of Canterbury Parish

All the events will take place at St. Augustine of Canterbury Catholic School located at 98 Shoreham Drive in North York (next to the church).

The conferences, workshops and meditations will be on family and life issues. Some topics that will be presented are:
· Sexuality
· Education of children
· Relationships between parents and children with problems
· Marital Problems (infidelity, violence...)
· Increase of Faith

The cost for the two days including meals is $20.00 for adults. Childcare is provide free of charge. Also, priests will be available for confessions and personal guidance.

Volunteers Needed!

Catholic Family Services of Toronto is a counselling agency offering programs for individuals, couples and families here in the Archdiocese.

We are currently in need of several volunteers to assist our agency's efforts in developing our fundraising Foundation. In the next year Catholic Family Services of Toronto would like to establish a Volunteer Committee as well as have one or two individuals assist us during the day for one or two days each week at the Central Office located next to the Summerhill subway station at 1155 Yonge Street.

Reunion of Former Students

St. Pius School on Jane Street was also home to St. James School before it's renaming.

On May 2, 2007, a casual luncheon/reunion is scheduled in Toronto for former St. James Students, Jane Street, who graduated in the years 1951-1954.

Counselling for Fathers, and Separated/Divorced Individuals!

Catholic Family Services of Toronto is offering two series of workshops this Fall. “Fathers Forever” is an 8-session group series for Separated or Divorced Fathers on Thursday evenings at the Central Office, 1155 Yonge Street, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. and will begin November 9, 2006.

Calling for Volunteers

St. Bernard's Residence 685 Finch Avenue in North York is always looking for volunteers who would be willing to visit our residents, to assist them with reading, to play cards or just to visit. Many of our residents have very little family and can be very lonely.

Space available for Meetings

St. Bernard's can provide space for small groups looking for a place to hold small meetings or gatherings (such as CWL, pastoral councils, Knights of Columbus etc.). The space can accommodate up to 35 people comfortably, is equipped with media equipment as well as having access to the grounds and chapel. This space is self-catering.

Groups are welcome to join the community for prayer and mass or when appropriate have their own celebrant or liturgical celebration.

The Companions of the Cross at York University Chaplaincy invite young adults to come to their new home, Bl. Pier Georgio Frassati House, at 685 Finch St. W. (a.k.a. "St. Bernard's Residence") for an evening of Eucharistic Adoration with Praise & Worship on Saturday, October 7, 2006, from 7-9 p.m.
