A Warm Welcome to Visitors for the World Cup

Posted : Jun-11-2026

As our city comes alive with the excitement of international soccer this summer, the Archdiocese of Toronto extends a heartfelt welcome to visitors from across Canada and around the world. We find joy in the spirit of unity, diversity and friendly competition that draws so many nations together in one place. Toronto will be hosting six FIFA World Cup games from June 12 – July 2, 2026.

Pope Leo XIV’s prayer intention for June is for the values of sports.  The pontiff invites us to “discover in sport a universal language that brings cultures together, unites peoples and sows respect, solidarity and personal growth.”  In a tweet yesterday, the Holy Father said, “Soccer reminds us of something we must not forget: life is not a race to show off on our own, but a path we learn to walk together. Anyone who does not know how to pass the ball, even if they have talent, has not yet understood the game. Anyone who does not know how to live with and for others has not yet understood life.”

In this vibrant moment for our city and country, we invite all guests to discover not only the energy of the matches, but also the rich spiritual and cultural life found in our Catholic communities.

Across the archdiocese, we celebrate Mass in more than 30 languages, one of the most diverse faith communities in the world. We invite all visitors to join us – for Mass, a moment of prayer, or simply a peaceful refuge amid the excitement. Our doors, as with our hearts, are open.

May this tournament foster peace, friendship, and mutual respect among all peoples. Through the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, help us to use our talents for Your glory and the good of others.
