Latest Updates on COVID-19 Restrictions by Region

Posted : Mar-08-2021

After the past several weeks of changing COVID-19 restriction statuses across the Archdiocese of Toronto, you may be understandably confused about what restriction level is affecting your particular parish. We want to give you a quick update on what is happening in the different regions of the Archdiocese of Toronto.

Toronto and Peel Regions

As of Monday, March 8, 2021, Toronto and Peel have returned to the colour-coded framework with both in the Grey (Lockdown) designation. Under current provincial guidelines, this does not change the situation for places of worship. Restrictions of no more than 10 people in the church, including the priest and those assisting with the liturgy remain in place.

In most parishes, Holy Communion Services continue on weekends and the church remains open each day for a period of private prayer. Many parishes are also livestreaming the Mass

Durham, Simcoe (NEW), York & Orangeville

Simcoe County returned to the Red (Control) zone on Monday, March 8, 2021, joining Durham Region, York Region and Orangeville. For sacramental celebrations, 30 per cent capacity is permitted.

Please note that new restrictions from the Bereavement Authority of Ontario (BAO) will significantly affect funerals in these areas. The BAO has capped funeral attendance to 50 people in Red zones, including the celebrant. We are working with the Assembly of Catholic Bishops of Ontario to convey our concerns regarding this issue.
