From Nov. 21 to 23, the Office of Catholic Youth hosted RENEW Toronto, its largest annual gathering for young Catholic adults. Held on the same weekend as the 40th World Youth Day and the Feast of Christ the King, 700 participants from ages 18 to 39 were in attendance at the Canada Event Centre in Whitby, Ont.
The conference drew special meaning from its timing. The event's theme, “You also are my witnesses, because you have been with me” (John 15:27), aligned with the 40th World Youth Day's theme emphasizing the role of young Catholics as witnesses to their faith.
The conference brought together a lineup of renowned Catholic speakers, featuring keynotes by Heather Khym who spoke on encountering and journeying with Jesus and Fr. Larry Richards, who focused on personal intimacy with Christ. It also featured a special video message from His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo. RENEW Toronto's workshops catered to young adults in different stages of life, including students, young professionals, those discerning vocations and those with young families. Fr. Larry Richards led a men's session, Sr. Hae-Jin Lim guided a women's session on being holy and fully alive and Ruth D'Souza presented a workshop for students and professionals on how to be a sign of Christ in the world. Steve and Liz Rebello shared insights on family life and holiness, while Vocations Director Fr. Matt McCarthy led a workshop on finding God in the everyday moments of our lives, for those exploring religious vocations.
The event showcased more than 50 Catholic vendors and exhibitors, ranging from small businesses and artists to religious orders, Catholic organizations, lay movements and academic institutions, among others. Aside from the keynotes, participants also had the opportunity to experience Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, Confession and Praise & Worship, creating a transformative experience for young Catholic adults.
The conference concluded with a Sunday Mass at St. Michael's Cathedral Basilica, celebrated by Cardinal Leo — a celebration of fellowship and community that marked both the liturgical feast day and the global celebration.
