Planning

This Department assesses the need for new churches, identifies potential sites and acquires land for new parishes. The process involves compiling demographic information from Statistics Canada, municipal planning departments, Catholic school boards, key developers and pastors relative to the need for new parishes. After inspection and research, recommendations are made to the Chancellor for Spiritual Affairs and the Chancellor for Temporal Affairs on the prioritization of the purchase of these lands.

Properties

This Department provides support and assistance to parishes relative to property matters and the construction and renovation of churches and other parish buildings. The Department also handles the purchase and sale of any Archdiocesan land and buildings, and provides support to parishes with regard to construction and renovation projects and site issues.

Housing

The Archdiocese supervises the administration and operation of nine senior citizen apartment buildings for seniors who are capable of independent living. The Archdiocese does not operate any facilities for those who require assisted living in a retirement home setting or nursing home care. The apartment buildings are located in Toronto, Brampton, Woodbridge, Barrie, Port Perry and Oshawa.
