Palm Sunday: Holy Week Begins

Posted : Mar-30-2026

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week for Christians around the world. It commemorates the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem, when crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and laying them on the road as a sign of honour. Palm Sunday begins the solemn journey of Holy Week toward Jesus’ suffering and crucifixion.

At St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, mother church of the Archdiocese of Toronto, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo presided at the noon Mass with the sacred music of St. Michael’s Choir School deepening the prayerful atmosphere.

The Palm Sunday liturgy invites all to enter more deeply into Christ’s Passion, Death and Resurrection during Holy Week.

Loving God, as we enter this sacred Holy Week, draw our hearts closer to you and to the mystery of your great love. Help us to walk with Jesus Christ in his journey of humility, sacrifice, and compassion. Give us the grace to reflect on our lives, to turn away from what separates us from you, and to embrace hope, mercy, and renewal. May this week deepen our faith, strengthen our love for others, and prepare us to rejoice in the promise of new life at Easter. Amen.
