Reflections on the Papal Visit

Posted : Dec-09-2022

About Being Catholic is hosting an evening of personal reflections on the Papal Visit to Canada at St. Gregory’s Parish on Thursday, December 15 at 7 p.m. Featuring testimony from some of the people who helped with Pope Francis’ historic visit, organizers say this is one way to continue walking forward together in truth, reconciliation and healing.

“We have seen a need for grassroots initiatives on a community level that addresses questions that have come up since the Holy Father’s visit to Canada,” say hosts Julia and Adam Kozak, who were both a part of the Office of the Papal Visit to Canada. “There has been much propagated through media outlets, however, there are many stories within the stories which have yet to be voiced. These are the stories which animate the movement of Spirit in which the Holy Father’s 'Pilgrimage of Penance' is set."

Alongside Julia, guests who will share personal reflections include Archbishop Richard Smith of Edmonton, Fr. Cristino Bouvette of Calgary, John Ecker of the Archdiocese of Toronto and Maria Lucas.

About Being Catholic is an approach to gathering people together on a local, grassroots level to more deeply explore and share about Catholic perspectives in society and our own individual experience.

Julia has a background as an artist, storyteller, a Catholic Indigenous and has experience in designing, building and sewing her own Indigenous Regalia for PowWows and ceremonies. She was also asked to design vestments for when the Pope celebrated the Mass at Commonwealth Stadium in Edmonton.

Adam was asked to be the National Programs Team Project Manager for the Office of the Papal Visit to Canada. His role included helping to make connections and assist between the project team members and their objectives.
