Meeting and Working with a Saint

By June Natione

June Natione, an 82 year-old parishioner of St. Justin Martyr Parish in Unionville, recalls her memories of Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta:

In the streets of Calcutta, June often saw Mother Teresa reaching out and helping the poor and destitute lying out in the streets. In 1956, at the age of 22, as a member of the Legion of Mary, June remembers clearly the day she spent at the Home for the Dying Destitutes in Calcutta.

“It was a large room in which the beds surrounded the outer walls of the room. The beds consisted of wooden planks, which we put sheets on. Mother Teresa was busy that day as she moved quickly from one side of the room to the other, finding a bed for the destitute. She was but a little woman in her blue and white sari, with sandals on her feet.”

June’s love and admiration of Blessed Mother Teresa began almost 60 years ago. On September 4, 2016, June can truly say she met and worked with a Saint!
