Nearly 900 young people representing school boards from across the Archdiocese came together at the Pearson Convention Centre for the Annual Ordinandi Youth Event—an inspiring day dedicated to faith, vocation, and discernment.
The event featured a dynamic program of music, dance, and p
owerful witness talks, creating a vibrant and prayerful atmosphere. Attendees had the opportunity to hear firsthand from one of this year’s ordinandi, Rev. Mr. Victor Valdes, alongside the joyful witness of Sr. Cabaccang, a Salesian Sisters, whose charism of accompaniment and dedication to youth ministry deeply resonated with participants. The presence and encouragement of His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo further underscored the importance of fostering vocations within the life of the Church.
In his address, Rev. Mr. Victor Valdes shared candidly about his personal journey of discernment, offering both honesty and encouragement to those considering their own path. He noted:
“Men in the seminary discern if God is calling them to the priesthood or not, and it was no different with me. I had to do a lot of hard work to discern God’s will for my life. I had to learn how to pray, how to have a relationship with Jesus, and I also had to work on my self. I had to heal any emotional and psychological wounds I had from my past so that I could properly choose what God wanted for me, without any negative influences derailing my discernment process. It was tough and painful, but it was so worth it, and this is something you are all capable of. It’s easy to be content with the way we are, but the Lord created you for greatness, not mediocrity. God’s will, what He wants for you, is always worth it, regardless if He is asking you to be a priest, be married, or join religious life.”
His message, rooted in authenticity and hope, encouraged young people to pursue a deeper relationship with Christ and to remain open to wherever God may be calling them—whether to priesthood, married life, or consecrated religious life.
A special note of gratitude is extended to the Salesian Sisters for their continued witness to joyful service and their commitment to walking alongside young people as they discern their vocation. Their presence served as a powerful reminder of the beauty and diversity of religious life in the Church.
The success of this impactful gathering is a testament to the dedicated efforts of the Toronto Serra Councils and St. Augustine’s Seminary, whose ongoing mission to promote and support vocations continues to inspire the next generation of faithful leaders within the Church.
