Celebrating 50 Years of Faith at St. Fidelis Parish

Posted : Dec-10-2025

On Dec. 7, St. Fidelis Parish joyfully celebrated its Golden Jubilee with a solemn 50th Anniversary Mass presided by His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo. The celebration brought together former pastors, long-time parishioners, former parishioners and many guests who gathered in thanksgiving for five decades of faith, service and community life.

During the homily, Cardinal Leo offered words of encouragement and heartfelt gratitude for the parish’s legacy. He concluded his homily with the inspiring words of St. John Paul II: “Remember the past with gratitude, live the present with enthusiasm and look forward to the future with confidence.” His message beautifully captured the spirit of the milestone.

The history of St. Fidelis Parish began on Dec. 5, 1975, when the parish was officially established. Just nine days later, on Dec. 14, 1975, the first Mass was celebrated in the school gym, marking the humble beginning of a growing and vibrant faith community. In the years that followed, the parish worked tirelessly to secure a permanent home.

March 8, 1981 marked a major step on this journey, when Monsignor Wall, Auxiliary Bishop of Toronto and Vicar General of the Diocese, celebrated the first Mass in the newly constructed church. On April 26, 1981, the Consecration Mass was celebrated by Cardinal Gerald Emmett Carter.

Over the past 50 years, St. Fidelis Parish has become a spiritual home for countless families — nurturing faith, celebrating the sacraments and fostering a strong sense of belonging rooted in service, prayer and community.

As we give thanks for our past and celebrate this remarkable milestone, we look with hope toward the future, trusting that God will continue to guide and bless our parish in the years ahead.
