Welcoming the All Saints Nigerian Catholic Chaplaincy

Posted : Jan-14-2026

In keeping with the missionary mandate of our Lord Jesus Christ, His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, through the Vicar for Ethnic Communities, Most Reverend Bishop Robert Kasun, has inaugurated a new Catholic Community called All Saints Nigerian Catholic Chaplaincy at Holy Cross Parish in Oshawa, Ont.

This historic occasion was marked by a solemn inaugural Mass last month officiated by Bishop Robert Kasun and concelebrated with Fr. Peter Chiaghalam Paul, CCE, Fr. Marijan Sisko (host parish priest), Fr. Arinze Onwuzulike, CSSp, Fr. Joel Okojie OSA, Fr. Patrick Ezimora, CCE, Fr. Benedict Nwamuo, CCE and Fr. Charles Egbulefu, CCE.

This inauguration brings to bear the apostolic and pastoral attentiveness of the Archdiocese of Toronto towards ethnic communities. It provides an opportunity for the Nigerian Catholic faithful residing in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions to celebrate the sacraments, especially the Holy Eucharist in a Nigerian-styled cultural tradition without deviating from the core Roman Catholic Tradition.

Adding to the dignity and solemnity of the celebration, the Knights of Saint John International, Commandery 710 Canada, mounted a distinguished Honour Guard during the Mass. The inauguration Mass drew a remarkable number of Nigerian faithful and well-wishers, whose strong presence reflected a profound sense of unity, gratitude, and joy. The Mass was followed by a reception where the new chaplaincy was warmly received with great enthusiasm and excitement.

The establishment of the All Saints Nigerian Catholic Chaplaincy represents a significant milestone in serving the spiritual, cultural, and pastoral needs of Nigerian Catholics in the region and stands as a testament to the community. The new chaplaincy is very grateful to Archdiocese of Toronto.

We pray that this new ministry will bear fruit and provide loving pastoral accompaniment for the Nigerian Catholic Community.
