What does the Office of Formation for Discipleship do?
Our vision is to assist lay people to come to the fullness of their vocation.
Our call to holiness is our vocation. We are each called by God to play a special role in bringing about the arrival of God's kingdom. To live out our vocation in an authentic way will bring us to a place of goodness and joy.
"Goodness always tends to spread. Every authentic experience of truth and goodness seeks by its very nature to grow within us, and any person who has experienced a profound liberation becomes more sensitive to the needs of others. As it expands, goodness takes root and develops. If we wish to lead a dignified and fulfilling life, we have to reach out to others and seek their good." #9 Evangelii Gaudium
What does that look like?
Our programmes are designed to provide insight and spiritual awareness to our participants, skills to carry out ministry and new ways to be engaged in prayer. As a community, we need to reach out to others and to be Christ-present, take the time to get to know each other and our faith and then move out into the world.
"An evangelizing community gets involved by word and deed in people's daily lives; it bridges distances, it is willing to abase itself if necessary and it embraces human life, touching the suffering flesh of Christ in others." #24 Evangelii Gaudium
This is our Mission
To provide systematic faith formation that helps people understand their Catholic faith more clearly and live it more eagerly.
Well developed, foundational programmes about the Catholic faith are enriching the lives of Catholics throughout the Archdiocese. When we truly understand the beauty and depth of the teachings of the Catholic Church and see how these teachings apply to our lives, then we will engage with the world in a new way.
This is Our Mandate
To assist parishes to nurture the faith formation of adults, affording them an understanding of what the Church teaches and a vocabulary with which to explain their faith and reach out to others.
Many of us know what we believe, but often we lack the language of faith to explain it to others. As part of our call to Evangelization, we need to acquire tools that will assist us to speak of God and the Church from an informed and heart-felt place.
"Evangelization aims at a process of growth which entails taking seriously each person and God's plan for his or her life. All of us need to grow in Christ. Evangelization should stimulate a desire for this growth, so that each of us can say wholeheartedly: "It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me" (Gal 2:20) #160 Evangelii Gaudium
