Susan M. Timoney, STD

As we face the challenges of the 21st century, how does the Church find its place in our communities and in the world? How do we live our Catholic faith amidst divergent societal, spiritual, and moral influences that question the relevance of Catholicism?

Our keynote speaker, Dr. Susan Timoney, from The Catholic University of America, will lead conference participants in a consideration of some of these questions. Her first presentation will focus on the pursuit of holiness, that is, growing more deeply in love of God and neighbour with Christ at the center of our lives. Are we on fire with our faith, or lukewarm? In the story of our saints, we find how ordinary choices come together to create extraordinary lives of faith.  In the second presentation, Dr. Timoney will speak about Pope Francis’ vision of our ‘missionary task’ as Catholics: we are called to share the Good News in a world skeptical of the presence of a loving God.  She will explore how the Catholic imagination has something to offer a world in search of a common good.

Dr. Susan Timoney is an Associate Professor of Pastoral Practice at The Catholic University of America. She served for 25 years in parish and diocesan ministry, most recently as Secretary for Pastoral Ministry and Social Concerns at the Archdiocese of Washington, the first woman appointed to that Senior Cabinet position. Susan is an internationally known speaker on topics such as Evangelization, Lay Leadership, and Catholic spirituality. Currently, she is designing a formation program for parish pastoral councils.
