February 12/13, 2022
Marriage Sunday highlights the importance of the sacrament of matrimony, affirms couples who strengthen our faith community through their witness, and complements World Marriage Sunday celebrations that take place across North America. It also honours those who nurture marriage ministries - marriage preparation, enrichment, etc. First celebrated in the Archdiocese of Toronto in 2011, His Eminence Thomas Cardinal Collins designated the weekend prior to the Family Day long weekend in Ontario as "Marriage Sunday". In 2022, Marriage Sunday weekend was celebrated on February 12/13, 2022.
Celebration of Marriage Mass
The Celebration of Marriage Mass took place on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at St. Michael’s Cathedral Basilica, 65 Bond St, Toronto. Bishop Robert Kasun, CSB presided over this special Mass for couples celebrating their milestone 25th, 40th, 50th, 60th, and 60+ wedding anniversaries.
"Marriage is a precious sign, for when a man and a woman celebrate the sacrament of marriage, God is, as it were, 'mirrored' in them; he impresses in them his own features and the indelible character of his love. Marriage is the icon of God's love for us."
From Pope Francis' Amoris Laetitia
